If your goods are in a Storage Room at Coventry Exhall, our Self Storage Agreement requires you to either: accept our enhanced liability protection under StoreProtect; or arrange insurance at your own expense for your stated Maximum Reinstatement Value for the duration of storage.

You can run a business from your container but for safety reasons you cannot operate machinery in the container.

For containers: We provide a padlock that fits under the lockbox. If you lose your keys we can provide 2 spare keys at a cost of £25+VAT.
If you provided the lock yourself, then we cannot help but we can cut off any type of lock from a door handle for a fee of £35+VAT. However if you have lost the keys to your own padlock locked under the lock box, then we will need to employ a welder to cut away the lock box and your lock. This is a very expensive service as whe will then have to reweld the lock box onto the container and re paint the box. This service costs £230+VAT as we pay outside contractors to provide this service.

No. We do not insure your contents, it is up to you to do so.

Security of our sites is our utmost priority. We have installed HD CCTV coverage; all sites are floodlit and the combination locks on the gates are changed regularly. We also have a security patrol who checks the gates are locked each evening.
To switch on flood lights, simply press ‘Touch’ on the lamp post and the flood lights will come on for approximately 20 minutes or they will automatically be on when it is dark.
We process deposit refunds or any other credits or refunds back onto the payment method that is registered against your account. You can check the payment method you use by logging onto our website, going to ‘my account’ and clicking the payment methods tab. A link to payment methods is here
Security deposit refunds will be paid back within 14 days of vacating the container and leaving it clean and empty, also you will need to return the lock we supplied free of charge and at least two keys. Should the container be left dirty or full of items/waste, we will charge accordingly to clear and clean the container and take this from your deposit refund prior to the refund. If you do not return the lock and keys we will deduct the current value of this lock from your deposit.
You will also receive a credit note showing VAT where appropriate. Note: Deposits have zero rated VAT.
Yes. Login to “My Account” and your card details can be changed by adding new or deleting old payment methods. You can update credit/debit card details or add new credit/debit card details.

We must have a valid payment method at all times to take your regular subscription payments. If for any reason your payment method fails, you will receive an email stating the payment has failed. If this receives no response from you we will then contact you by text. We expect this to be rectified immediately.
They are taken every month in advance following your initial order (unless you have chosen a 3 month, 6 month or 12 month contract, in which case they are taken every 3, 6 or 12 months in advance).
We charge your payment method automatically on the date of your renewal every month (or 3, 6 or 12 months in the case of long term rentals).
You pay one months storage and a security deposit based on the type and location of your rental unit.
You can choose to pay for 3, 6 or 12 months if your prefer and gain extra discounts but we only require one months rental.

Please note, we charge VAT on all rental charges for containers, storage rooms, offices, warehouse space, insurance charges, wifi, ramps, electricity and locking pin purchases. No VAT is charged on security deposits.
The security deposit will be refunded provided the container is left clean and empty and the lock and keys we provide are returned.
Yes. All rentals of storage rooms, containers, offices and warehouse space have a security deposit charge based on the type of rental and location.
We return the full deposit at the end of your rental when you leave your rental unit clean and empty, and if we have provided a padlock this must also be returned with the two keys supplied.
No. All payments are taken automatically using the card details you provide at the point of booking.

All credit cards must be registered to a UK address and issued by a UK Bank
Yes you can. All payments and ID uploads take place at the time you place your order. Our service is designed to be as fast and hassle free as possible.
We aim for you to have access to your container as quickly as possible and typically 24 working hours within your order being placed and paid for.
Your storage rolls over and you will be charged for the next month when its due.
You need to give us 30 days notice via email confirming the date you will be vacating your container. By that date you need to have emptied the container, left it as you found it (clean and completely empty) and removed your padlock.
No sorry. You receive a discount if you enter into a 3, 6 or 12 month contract period but we do not refund long term rental should you wish to leave early. If you think you may only need short term rental then we suggest you pay monthly.
Yes. In order to receive a full refund, we require you to leave the container clear – remove all of your items and rubbish and leave it brushed out and clean as you found it.
Yes you can. Just email us at enquiries@greyboxselfstorage.co.uk with your container number and the date you are moving out. Remember we need a minimum of 30 days notice
We provide our recommended padlock free of charge with every container rental. These locks are designed to fit under the welded steel lock box on your container, and have proven to be the only type of lock to deter theives.
If you need to buy a new lock, please click here to buy our recomended lock.
We DO NOT recommend you place locks on the container door handles. If you decide to use your own lock, please try and find a lock that fits under the steel lock box.
Please note, if you loose the keys to a lock we have provided, we can either get two extra keys cut for that lock, or provide you a new lock with two keys, for a charge of £25+VAT.

Containers: No. Once you have gate access & container access codes you can gain access 24/7.
Storage Rooms: 7am to 7pm everyday including weekends. Excludes Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Easter Sunday.
Yes, within 24 hours typically.
As long as you have provided the correct ID, paid your first months rental and deposit, we will then approve your identification and provide details of your container and security codes within the next working 24 hours. Please note our office is only open weekdays, so if you place your order over a weekend or bank holiday please do not expect to move in until the next working day.
No the rental does not include contents insurance.
Storage Rooms and office rental: this is compulsory for our site at Coventry Exhall and is ordered at the time you place your order for a storage room.
Containers: you will need to insure your own contents
As well as photo ID, we will also need proof of address. You can use your driving licence, provided you haven’t used it as photo ID, or a bank statement or utility bill that is less than 2 months old.
Passport, Driving licence, HM Armed Forces Veteran Identification Card, British Army, RAF or Navy Identification Card, CitizenCard, Proof of age card, or CPASS Proof of age card
Unfortunately not. We require photographic ID to confirm you are who you say you are for security reasons.
The minimum length of stay is 1 month, there is no maximum.
If payment cannot be taken by the credit/debit card you have provided, we will immediately contact you to request you amend or change your payment method on your account.
We only take payments through our website by credit or debit card
If you do not pay after our reminders we follow a process that is outlined clearly in our ‘overdue payments – information’ page. This sets out how we will proceed and what extra charges we make.

You need to be 18 years of age to rent a container.
Once you are logged in go to “My Account” you can view your licence and view and amend payments, contact details & payment methods.
When you become a customer and log onto our website, you can see all details we hold about you in ‘My Account’. We follow GDPR rules on holding personal data and any data we hold is to serve our business relationship only. For any information about how we treat your personal data and why we need it, please refer to our “Privacy Policy” at the bottom of the web page.

No, we do not charge registration or admin’ fees.
When you make a booking, you pay a months rent in advance and a security deposit for each container and lock. The security deposit is refunded to you when you move out, provided the container is left in the same condition as when you moved in and your return the lock and keys. The security deposit is £95 per container.
Yes if you or your company is VAT registered with the government.
VAT is shown clearly on all invoices and credit notes and these can be found in ‘My Account’ when you are logged onto our website.
Our VAT registration number is GB406204735.
The smallest size is a 10 foot container, this is around 80 sq ft in floor area is over 8ft in height.
As a rough guide, you can get the contents of a flat or small 1 bedroomed house in a 10ft container.
Other container sizes are:
20ft (around 160 sq ft in floor area, over 8 ft tall), taking approximately the contents of a 3 bedroomed house, or 3-4 transit van loads of boxes, or approximately 800 standard packing boxes if completely filled to the roof!
40ft (around 320 sq ft in floor area, over 8ft tall) taking approximately the contents of a 4 bedroomed house and double garage, or 6-8 transit van loads of boxes, or approximately 1600 standard packing boxes if completely filled to the roof!
The biggest size is a 40 foot container, this is 320 sq ft in floor area and is over 8ft in height.
As a rough guide, you can get the contents of a 4-6 bedroomed house in a 40ft container, or 5-8 transit van loads of boxes, or approximately 1600 standard packing boxes if completely filled to the roof!
All containers on site are water tight however there may be condensation which is occurs when the metal container heats and cools. We suggest keeping sensitive items away from the container edges if you feel this may be a problem. Please see FAQ “What you can Store” to check if your goods are suitable.

The storage containers do not have electricity as standard, however electricity can be provided (1 x 30amp supply, standard plug socket) at an additional monthly cost. We also offer discounts for ordering for 6 or 12 months at a time.

CASTLE DONINGTON – Container numbers 1, 2, 3, 24, 25, 34 and 35
LEICESTER – Container numbers 1 to 25
No. Due to limited space, no parking is allowed on site. No vehicles can be left on site at anytime if you are not attending your container.

Toilets can be found as follows:
Castle Donington – The nearest public toilet is at the Coop on Station Road/Trent Lane, which is 3 minutes walk and 30 seconds drive. (COOP Store, Station Rd, Castle Donington, DE74 2NJ)
Leicester North – Toilets are available in Specialist Crafts during normal business hours if you ask politely! Or there are toilers at KFC/Morrisons on the roundabout on Waterside Road (Waterside Rd, Leicester LE5 1TL) which is 1 minute drive or 5 minutes walk.
Yes. A discount of 5% is applied for 6 monthly advance payments, and 10% for 12 monthly advance payments, this is applied when you place the order
Please note we CANNOT refund your upfront rent should you decide to vacate your container early.
Yes, but only if there is a free container available to move too. Please “Contact Us” in this instance
Access is limited to you only unless you ask Grey Box Self Storage to hold a key on your behalf.

As long as the email address is recognised as one that has a live container subscription or if you call, please have your full name, address and details of the security documents you provided and we will be happy to check your details and give you the most up to date gate code.
Our site is available to you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Once you have received your main gate code there are no restrictions to times/days you can access your container.

No. Sleeping or attempting to live from our containers would be in breach of our contract with you. Also our containers are airtight and are therefore not suitable for living, breathing items!
No. Space is limited, for access reasons no vehicles can be left within the compound overnight. Vehicle access is restricted to loading and unloading.
